Hungarian Consul in Providence — 75 Minutes to Derry, Not 4 Hours to New York
Rhode Island's Hungarian-Americans have a regional consulate. You don't need to drive to Manhattan.
The Hungarian Community of Greater Providence
Providence and greater Rhode Island sit 75 miles south of the Honorary Consulate in Derry, NH — a straightforward drive up I-95 that takes roughly 80 minutes. Compare that to the Consulate General in Manhattan: over 200 miles, 3.5+ hours each way, a full day of driving, parking, and city logistics. For Hungarian-Americans in Providence, Warwick, Cranston, and beyond, the Derry option is obvious once you know it exists.
Providence's Hungarian-American community has roots in the city's industrial past, with later arrivals through Brown University and RISD. Many residents in the north and west suburbs have never heard of the Derry consulate — which is exactly the gap this page closes.
